Why each column matters
Insurers price each vehicle on what it is, what it does and where it lives. Gaps in these details usually mean more back-and-forth before a broker can quote.
- Registration
- Identifies the vehicle and is used to record it on the Motor Insurance Database.
- Vehicle type
- Sets how the vehicle is rated and which cover options apply.
- Make and model
- Affects repair costs, parts availability and theft risk.
- Gross weight (kg)
- Separates vans from heavier goods vehicles, which are insured and licensed differently.
- Value (£)
- Used to settle total loss and theft claims, so keep it realistic.
- Main use
- The class of use must match the work the vehicle does, or claims can be refused.
- Overnight parking
- Where vehicles are kept overnight is one of the biggest factors in theft risk.
- Modifications
- Conversions, racking, tail lifts and signwriting should all be declared.
- Annual miles
- Gives the insurer a sense of how much time the vehicle spends on the road.

Renewal coming up?
Start early. Give the renewal month and what's changed in the fleet, and a specialist broker can work on quotes before your current policy ends.
FleetQuote is an introduction service, not an insurer or broker. We pass your enquiry to Quotezone, which operates a panel of brokers and insurers. How our service works
